Thesis

On April 9th, 2023, Raphael Halff burned his master's thesis entitled, "Fayner's Fire: The Making of a Destructivist."
...
It was about the Holocaust novelist Ka-Tzetnik 135633 who, before WWII—under his birthname, Yehiel Fayner—published only one book of poetry: Tsveyuntsvantsik: Lider. In 1993, he stole it from the National Library of Israel, burnt it, and sent back the remains pictured here in the background.

Rational

When Ka-tzetnik 135633 burned his book of poetry many asked: "Why?" He never answered.
...
No one has asked Raphi why he burnt his thesis, but I have answered here anyway. See also a photo collage featuring John Baldessari, Ka-Tzetnik, and Me with no explanatory comments.

The Book

The ash resulting from the burnt thesis was incorporated into the making of a book, "Fayner's Fire," which you can see here.
